Today I spoke with Dave Maciuk (left), Hockey Director with the Chicago Young Americans and representative for Mentor Group Sports Management.

Dave Maciuk

Listen to the entire 20:49 interview HERE.

We chatted about his roots, the annual Monster Energy Drink Showcase Tournament, and the Chicago Young Americans program in general. A particular emphasis on the Midget Major U16s was the feature, with Ryan Papa receiving some of the attention originally allotted for recent #1 overall Ontario Hockey League Entry Draft selection, Alex Galchenyuk (pictured below).

Galchenyuk, the son of Belarussian Olympian Aleksandr Galchenyuk has created an immense stir this year and is bolting up scouting lists for future NHL draft lists. Galchenyuk has lit up the Mid West Elite Hockey League, bringing international attention to his electric scoring prowess with 87 points in 38 games and winning the league scoring title by a clear 33 points.

Galchenyuk

Galchenyuk was a true dynamo, tallying a league-best 30 game point streak to end the season (75 points); he was hands down the league's Most Valuable Player.

Playing for the Young Americans, the youngster was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while his Dad was part of the Milwaukee Admirals of the defunct International Hockey League (IHL) in 1994. 'Junior G' was made available for the recently concluded 2010 OHL Draft by playing in the MWEHL and was snapped up by ex-NHL and Russian star forward Igor Larionov, now a player agent.

The Sarnia Sting(OHL) made Galchenyuk the subject of much hype with their pick; he was highlighted in a Hockey News article by Ryan Kennedy on 27 May 2010. A prospects camp in early May 2010 showed all the faithful Sting fans just what they can expect next season. Dave Maciuk helped us explore just what the young right winger brings to the table and some background information on his circumstances and abilities.

A Galchenyuk

Sarnia witnessed Tampa Bay Lightning superstar Steven Stamkos come through town not too long ago as the OHL's #1 pick; Stamkos continued on to be the #1 overall draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Expectations were whetted in this town.

Maciuk also brought us information on goalie Jared Rutledge's future with the U17 US National Develpment Team.
