ReD FM (Reflecting Ethnic Diversity) has added play-by-play of Vancouver Canucks' home games across the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, for an established audience of 200,000 that certainly appreciate having the action brought to them in a concise manner. CKYE-FM (93.1 FM) began broadcasting Canucks' home playoff games last week (in Punjabi), with expansion plans for soccer, football, and visiting Canucks' games in the future. An ethnic diverse audience is rewarded with a wide variety of programming that includes (but not limited to) Hindi and Punjabi daily shows, Hungarian, Urdu, Fijian, Serbian, English, and other specialty programming. THe broadcast will also feature a 10 minute pre-game and 30 minute post-game shows, complete with caller input. Highlighted by the Canucks, ReD FM figures to be a major player in a growing niche market and could be spearheading an entire movement. ReD FM is a radio station that made its debut on 21 December 2005. 20 April 2009 / Robin Keith Thompson |
